Breast Cancer Survival Rates - Stage 1 Breast Cancer

Every human being is born with a complete system that functions to the various needs of the body. When a baby is born, the mother develops milk in her breast so that the baby will be able to feed from it on its early months. Each and every one of us, male or female, has a tendency to be affected by various ailments. And as the famous saying stated, an ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure. There are some diseases that can be cured by common medicine, however there are certain illnesses that cannot be cured easily and could alter a person's life in an instant. One of the malignant diseases we are all afraid about is the "Big C," and one of the most common types of cancer is breast cancer.

Cancer of the breast is a disease that affects female populace more often than not, however men are not spared. Men can also acquire this disease as well. This deadly disease has four stages and you are lucky enough if diagnosed in an earlier stage. In the law of cancer, the earlier diagnosed the higher chance of survival. Stage 1 breast cancer is the earliest of the breast cancer stages and its survival rates show improvements. Stage 1 breast cancer is when the malignant cancer cells of the breast have started to develop and expand within the breast. Usually at this early stage, the breast cancer tumor is still hard to detect and not visible in the naked eye. During this early stage, there are various tests conducted to determine if there is a tumor inside the breast of a person that is suspected to be a cancer carrier.

The good news for people positive with the disease is that according to some statistics and researches, stage 1 breast cancer survival rates have been favorable and have a 95 % chance of continued existence for patients diagnosed. During this stage, the tumor developed inside the breast is better to remove than when it has affected various parts of the body already. If a person is feeling indifferent about any part of their body, like an unfamiliar lump on the breast, they should immediately seek professional help in order to determine if they have acquired any illnesses concerning the breast. You do not want to wait for the worse to come. Whether or not it is cancer, it is always better to prevent it from coming.

How to Make Your Breasts Look Bigger

Having a well-filled breast is almost every woman's dream. In a society like ours where having big breasts is adored and given such emphasis, it is not surprising that every flat-chested woman desires to be well-endowed. Various breast enhancement products have come to the forefront that promise to give fuller breasts. But there's no proof that they really work. "If these estrogens were powerful enough to be effective, the creams wouldn't be available over the counters," notes Seth Matarasso, M.D., an associate clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. "No pill can safely increase your breast size," says Kelly Shanahan, ob/gyn and author of Your Over-35 Week-by-Week Pregnancy Guide. While nothing short of surgery will make your boobs look like that of Pamela Anderson's, there are less invasive options that can make a difference. Here's the ultimate guide to beautiful breasts at any age.

1. Exercise

Okay, so exercise won't add inches to your breasts. Breasts are largely fatty tissue and there's no exercise to grow fat. But exercise can make your breasts sit higher and more even on your chest because it builds up pectoral muscles directly below the breasts. This pushes the breasts outward giving them the appearance of being a bit larger. If you strengthen your back muscles, you can also improve your posture and make your chest look a hundred times better. Try to do the following exercise everyday to increase your breast size naturally and to firm them up:

How to Make Your Breasts Look Bigger

a. The Push-ups:
This will help keep your chest muscles firm and toned. To do this, put your hands and knees on the floor with your back flat. Align your hands with your bust. Bend your arms and lower yourself until your chest almost touches the floor. Then push yourself back up to the starting position. Hold this pose for a few seconds and then bend your arms again bringing your torso down a few inches to the floor. Repeat this ten times. On the second week, perform two full sets of ten repetitions. And on the third week thereafter, do three full sets every other day.

b. Modified Push-ups

This is akin to the push-ups mentioned earlier. The only difference is that instead of the hands and knees on the floor, the lower arms, the elbows and toes are placed against the floor. The torso is raised up but your lower arms and elbows and toes are kept on the floor.

c. The back extension

Back extensions strengthen your upper and lower back muscles, thus improving posture. To do this, after each set of push-ups, lie facedown on the floor, lift one arm and the opposing leg a few inches straight in the air simultaneously, and hold on for a count of ten. Do the move twice on each side.

d. Bench Press:

This is the best exercise for shaping and firming your bust line because aside from shaping and firming the bust line, it also sculpts the shoulders and tightens the triceps. To perform this exercise, lie flat on a bench, with one foot on each side of the bench touching the floor. Firmly press your head, shoulders, back and butt on the bench while sticking up your chest. Keep the dumbbells about 18-20 inches apart and parallel to the floor with your palms facing upwards. Slowly push the dumbbells straight up, away from your chest. Fully extend your arms but don't lock your elbows when arms are fully extended. The dumbbells should now be approximately a few feet above your chest. Pause slightly at the top of the movement then slowly lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position. Inhale and hold your breath as you lower the dumbbells. When they reach the chest, begin to move the weight upward again. Exhale as you pass the point of greatest resistance. Repeat this 8 to 12 times to complete one set. You can perform about 1 to 3 sets at a session and about 3 sessions per week with a day's rest between sessions.

e. Breast Press

Using two three-to-five pound dumbbells, sit on the edge of a chair with your back straight, arms at your sides. Lean forward slightly at your hips, and bend your elbows to 90 degrees, keeping the palms down. Raise your arms from the shoulders so your elbows reach shoulder level, your hands in front and to each side. Hold this position for a count of four, and then return to your start position. Repeat this ten times.

f. Arm Swings

While standing erect, swing your right arm clockwise for eight counts while the left arm rests at your side. Then let your right arm rest at your side and swing your left arm clockwise also for eight counts. Repeat this exercise on both arms only this time the movement is counterclockwise.

g. Stand-up Push-ups

Stand facing a wall at arm's length. Place palms on the wall. Push against the wall as if you were pushing it away, without bending arms at the elbow. Hold for eight counts and relax arms for eight counts. Repeat this eight to twenty times a day.

h. Apply Pressure

Massage the upper and outer area of your bust in circular motions applying gentle pressure. This helps stimulate circulation on the muscles and help tone the fatty tissue of the breasts.

2. The Perfect Boosting Bra

If your boobs appear sacked out on your rib cage or distinctively lopsided, maybe the problem is your bra. You'll get the sexiest support if you look for the following features:

a. Supportive cups

"If your breasts are saggy, they'll sit in the bottom of the sheer cup," says Stacey Ellis, a bra-fit specialist for Nordstrom. Look for a bra with lined cups that are slightly firm to touch.

b. A firm, solid back

Flimsy cotton and lace may not be strong enough to pull your breasts up. A bra with a wide, tightly woven back will help hoist you up in front.

c. Underwire

Underwire bras give a good lift to your busts because they provide good support underneath. Just make sure the wire surrounds the breast tissue and is a perfect fit to your breasts otherwise you'd be uncomfortable to wear them.

d. Padded bra

Padded bras don't just make your breasts appear bigger but they also provide added protection to your breasts from accidental nudges in public and crowded places.

3. Nutrition

Nutrition is one of the factors that influence the growth of breasts.
How you look reflects the things that you put in your body. If you want your breasts to look good, I recommend you exercise healthy food choices. Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Women with poor diets tend to have smaller breasts while women who are overweight tend to have larger breasts. Also add Til or sesame seeds in your intake. They are known to be effective in firming the breasts of women because they contain calcium, protein, iron and phosphorous. The oil also can be applied on the breast to make it look less droopy.

Although having well-filled breasts makes a woman feel more confident about herself, the lack of breast tissue does not make her less than a woman. Beauty is not gauged on breast size alone. The truth is, most women look pretty in their own ways. But one of the biggest things that makes a person attractive is a positive attitude towards oneself and other people. People are easily drawn to women who exude such compelling influence, no matter what size of breasts they have. So, if you want to attract more people, don't just focus on having bigger breasts and wanting what you don't have, instead work your way up with your self-esteem. At any rate, you will realize that you will be happier with a bigger self-esteem than a bigger boobs.

Breast Cancer - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women. In the US, about 180,000 women develop it each year. The disease can also occur in men, although cancer of the male breast accounts for less than 1 in 100 cases. The risk of it increases with age, doubling every 10 years.

The disease is most commonly diagnosed in women over age 50. Very few women under age 30 develop it. Despite the rise in incidence, there has been a small drop in the number of deaths in the recent years and only about one-fifth of cases prove fatal. This reduction is due to improvements in treatment and the increased use of mammography for screening, which means that tumors can be detected early, when they often respond well to treatment.

Screening may reduce the number of deaths in women over age 50 by up to 4 in 10. In the US, many doctors recommend that women over age 40 have a mammogram every 1-2 years and every year over age 50. A cancerous tumor may first develop in the breast lobules (the structures in the breast that produce milk). A tumor that originates in the milk ducts may lead to Paget's disease of the breast. Tumors may spread to other organs, such as the lungs or the liver, before being detected.

Breast Cancer - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

It is a cancer that originates in the breast tissue of women and men. It can spread to the lymph nodes under the arm before diagnosis. With advanced disease, metastasis can be seen in many body organs, including bone, brain, lung, liver and skin.

Causes:

The underlying cause of most is unclear. However, some risk factors have been identified, many of which suggest that the female hormone estrogen is an important factor in the development and progress of the disease. It is known that women who have their first menstrual period before age 11, or who have a late menopause, seem to be at increased risk of developing this cancer, probably because they are exposed to high levels of estrogen for longer. The number of menstrual cycles before a first pregnancy is also significant. And a woman who has her first child before age 20 has chances. Breast feeding is thought to have an additional protective effect.

Risk factors for developing it include

. Early onset of menses or late menopause

. First pregnancy after age 30

. Family history of the disease

. Radiation exposure

Possible risk factors include

. High fat diet

. Excessive alcohol intake

. Estrogen replacement therapy

. Oral contraceptive use

Symptoms:

It is usually manifest as a painless lump anywhere in the breast or under the arm. Occasionally, its symptoms can be more subtle, such as:

. An inverted nipple

. Bloody discharge from the nipple

. Changes in the skin overlying the breast making it resemble the skin of an orange.

Diagnosis:

Any Breast pain or lumps felt on physical examination by a woman or her physician and any lumps found on mammography (Radiography) should be considered for biopsy. Lumps seen on mammography, but not palpable on examination can be located by ultrasound or mammogram for biopsy. If a diagnosis of it is established, staging tests include:

. Liver function tests

. Alkaline phosphates test to check for bone disease

. Chest X-ray (Radiography)

. Bone Scan (Nuclear Medicine)

Complications:

Complications of it are related to areas of metastasis:

. Metastasis to bone can cause pain, bone fractures or elevated calcium levels in the blood.

. Metastasis to the brain or spinal cord can cause seizures, headaches, weakness, numbness or confusion.

. Metastasis to the lungs can cause breathing difficulty, chest pain or swelling of the face and neck.

Treatment: Self Treatment:

. A well balanced diet should be maintained. Once a diagnosis of it is made all estrogen medication should be stopped, including birth control pills.

Medical Treatment:

Many women will require additional drug therapy after surgery to prevent it from returning. Either tamoxifen (a hormonal pill) or chemotherapy (intravenous medication) may be recommended, depending on the type of tumor. More advanced case is also treated with chemotherapy or hormonal therapy.

Surgical Treatment:

Two alternative initial treatments for it are:

. Lumpectomy with lymph node dissection followed by radiation therapy to the breast.

. Mastectomy (mastectomy, partial or mastectomy, modified radical)

Prevention:

Early detection of it by regular beast self-examination and regular mammography (Radiography) screening is important. A low - fat diet and moderate alcohol intake may be important. Some researchers theorize that exercise for preadolescent girls may be helpful as it delays the age of onset of menstruation.

Stage 3 Breast Cancer and Survival Rates

Stage 3 breast cancer is an advanced type of malignant disease. It is separated in three distinct levels or stages with their own differences of infection spread. Breast cancer survival rates for stage 3 breast carcinoma is at 50 percent chance of survival in 5 year duration.

Stage 3 breast carcinoma is subdivided into three categories. Theses categories are stage 3 - A, stage 3 - B and stage 3 - C cancer of the breast. A stage 3 - A breast carcinoma usually means that the tumor inside the breast of the woman has grown up to about 5 centimetres in diameter.

The malignant cancer tumor has most likely spread unto the lymph nodes in the breast, armpit and the collar - bone.

Stage 3 Breast Cancer and Survival Rates

Another case of stage 3 - A breast cancer is when the malignant tumor has grown about 5 centimetres in diameter and has spread only to the lymph nodes near the breast. There is a stage 3 - A breast cancer survival rate of fifty - one to fifty - six percent.

When the malignant cancer tumor of the breast has expanded towards the tissues of the skin, chest muscles, ribs and chest wall, it is then called Stage 3 - B breast carcinoma. In some rare cases, the malignant tumor may also affect the lymph nodes in the breast bone of a woman.

Breast cancer survival rates for this type of breast carcinoma plays at around forty - two to forty - nine percent chance of survival.

Stage 3 - C cancer of the breast is subdivided into two more classifications to differentiate them better. The two types of stage 3 - C carcinoma differ from each other because one is operable while the other is non - operable.

Operable stage 3 - C breast carcinoma generally occurs when the breast tumor has spread and affected the lymph nodes around the areas of the neck and the below the collarbone.

Inoperable stage 3 - C breast carcinoma on the other hand occurs when the tumor has spread and affected the lymph nodes above the collarbone of the body.

Medical specialists all around the world explains that the five - year breast cancer survival rates of stage 3 - C is around thirty - five - percent chance of survival.

One must take note that these statistics are based on years where cancer detection and treatment where not yet advance.

With all the advancement in research and cure for cancer today, cancer survival rates should become higher compared to the statistics last ten years ago.

Surviving Breast Cancer - What Are the Chances?

A woman's chances of surviving breast cancer depend on early diagnosis of this ailment and treatment. Higher rates of survival in recent years are because the reason that the average tumor is smaller in size and not merely because treatments have improved. Doctors often stress on regular mammograms for an increase in early detection. This can lead to earlier treatment when the tumors are smaller.

Women should consider taking a combination of chemotherapy drugs after surgery for localized breast cancer. This additional treatment improves long-term survival rates. Three to six months of treatment with two or more chemotherapy drugs is considered optimal by the experts. This additional chemo therapy treatment will even benefit those women whose cancer has not spread to their lymph nodes.

Women diagnosed in their late 40s stand a better chance of surviving the disease over the long term as compared to the women who contract it in their 20s or 30's. The age of the women at diagnosis is an extremely important factor of survival. Doctors are likely to modify the way they treat after a study that found that combination of chemotherapy with hormonal treatment increases women's chances for long-term survival. The study also reported that removal of the ovaries had life-prolonging benefits in breast cancer patients.

Surviving Breast Cancer - What Are the Chances?

According to a study radiation after surgery for early-stage breast cancer improves survival chances for most patients. The study found that women who omitted radiation therapy after surgery had higher mortality rate than women who had the radiation therapy. Shilajit & Cancer

Is Bronchitis Contagious? Yes and No

Bronchitis is the swelling of the bronchial tubes, otherwise known as the airways. These airways are the windpipes that directly connect to the lungs. Bronchitis happens when there is an irritation that occurs in the bronchial tubes. Next to the irritation, the formation of thick mucus will soon follow. Hence, the air passage will be blocked by the mucus, leading to difficulty in breathing. Bronchitis can be identified into two types: acute and chronic. The acute bronchitis is normally an illness that lasts for a short period of time. Usually, this is caused by severe cold. But most often, this is triggered by the viral infections. Acute bronchitis is characterized by the pain in the middle of the chest, cough that comes with green sputum. Fever might also happen, and a slight difficulty in breathing might also occur.

The Chronic bronchitis on the other hand is identified with a cough that produces mucus. And this lasts for longer period of time as compared to the acute bronchitis. The sufferers of bronchitis are also identified to suffer from different level of breathing difficulty. These sufferers may also have the possibility to attain lung infections sometimes. Hence, the breathing difficulty is worsen. There are certain occasions where chronic bronchitis is termed as "chronic obstructive lung disease" and "chronic obstructive airways disease." From the terms themselves, the problem can already be identified-difficulty in air circulation that goes in and out of the lungs. Now, the question comes, is bronchitis contagious? The answer is yes. Bronchitis is extremely contagious. The virus can be transmitted by the means of cough, sneeze, and yes, even by simply touching the things that has been touched by the person infected. Bronchitis, basically, is the swelling of the bronchia, thus, it is not contagious. However, as the bacteria starts to form, the disease then is contagious the moment the bacteria was emitted into the air. In fact, there are already several affected people who confessed that they had the disease when they had a close contact with the infected person. Now, the question is how long is bronchitis contagious? According to the medical experts, the length of time of the disease contagiousness actually depends on the cause and type of the person's bronchitis. For a person who suffers from bronchitis, it is suggested for him to visit and consult to a medical specialist of respiratory and pulmonary to assure whether he is already contagious and until when will it last. It is advisable for the infected person to consult to a medical specialist when bronchitis tends to occur, if not, it may possibly lead to pneumonia. Both the acute and chronic bronchitis have the threat to become contagious. Even the healthy person is not safe from the attacks of acute bronchitis. This is because of the viral infection. These viral infections can be transmitted from one person to other through indirect and direct contact.

However, the spread of bronchitis can still be avoided. The affected person only needs to maintain a healthy hygiene by regularly washing his hands and by using hand sanitizers afterwards. Most importantly, the affected person should cover his mouth whenever he is coughing. Hence, the possibility of transmitting the disease is reduced. People who suffer from asthma may also develop an acute bronchitis. Such circumstance reduces the risk of acute bronchitis to be contagious. It is the effect whenever the acute bronchitis acts as a complication of a certain disease. To totally eliminate the risk of spreading the disease, it is best to cure it. Antibiotic are not regarded as an effective way to treat acute bronchitis. This is because bronchitis is caused by viral infection. Only an ample amount of rest, an extra liquids intake, and a non-prescription medicine for cough are the suggested effective treatment for acute bronchitis. The antibiotic are only prescribe by the doctors whenever there is the presence of bacterial infection. Antibiotic will then serve to lessen the risk of secondary infection. For the asthmatics, the doctor may recommend a medication for asthma, most likely an inhaler. These medications will widen the contracted lung airways.

Top Five Killers For Women: Heart Disease, Breast Cancer, Osteoporosis, Depression Etc

Imagine living without illness to slow you down. While there are no lifetime guarantees, enough scientific research has been done to make long, healthy living a possibility. To help women boost health, we list five medical conditions that are of great concern: heart disease, breast cancer, osteoporosis, depression, and autoimmune diseases.

1) Heart Disease: Heart disease is the leading killer of both men and women. In women, the condition is responsible for about 29% of deaths. Yet death in itself isn't the biggest problem for women with heart disease. The real trouble is in premature death and disability. There are far too many dying of heart disease in their 60s. There are (also( women who, for many years, are really ill with heart disease- being out of breath, not being able to walk even one flight of stairs... because heart disease impairs their ability.

Must Read: Heart Attack Symptoms, Prevention and Treatment- You can actually prevent heart attack at http://www.weightloss-health.com/prevent%20heart%20attack.htm

Top Five Killers For Women: Heart Disease, Breast Cancer, Osteoporosis, Depression Etc

2) Breast Cancer: Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women. It is second to lung cancer as the leading cause of death for women. Experts say the fear of breast cancer can sometimes be exaggerated, stopping women from going to their doctors for screening, or pushing women to make rash decisions about mastectomy, when it may not be necessary. There's a lot of treatment for breast cancer. Women should educate themselves.

Must Read: Passive smokers can get Breast Cancer, a Report at http://www.weightloss-health.com/passive_smokers_cancer.htm

3) Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis threatens a lot of people, of which 68% are women. Osteoporosis is largely preventable. The behaviors that women develop in their childhood, in their adolescence, and in their early adult years really play a significant role in the development of the disease. That's because bodies build up most of bone mass until age 30. Then new bone stops forming and the focus is on maintanance of old bone. It is never too late to keep bones strong and avoid fractures.

Must Read: Bodyache? Headache? Don't pop painkillers indiscriminately. They can have side-effects at http://www.weightloss-health.com/painkillers%20side-effects.htm

Random Tip: US scientists have claimed that secondhand smokers are at higher risk of Breast Cancer. Earlier, their research also led to the conclusion that young women smokers are more likely to get addicted to smoking than young men. The Breast Cancer findings are part of a 1,200 page report of the Air Resources Board, which has done ground-breaking work in regulating US auto-emissions

4) Depression: Depression appears to affect more women than men. About 12 million women are affected by a depressive disorder each year. Women need that sustenance, and if they don't have it, they tend to get depressed. Sometimes, hormonal changes can also trigger the condition. Statically, the healthiest adults are people in significant relationships. Adults not in nurturing relationships can reduce their risk of depression by making efforts to reach out into the community.

Must Read: What is Depression? Know its facts, symptoms and treatment at http://www.weightloss-health.com/Depression.htm

5) Autoimmune Diseases: Autoimmune diseases are a group of disorders in which the immune system attacks the body and destroys or alters tissues. There are more than 8- serious chronic illnesses in this category, including lupus, multiple sclerosis, and type 1 diabetes.

It is believed that 75% of autoimmune diseases occur in women. by themselves, each disease appears to be uncommon- except for diabetes, thyroid disease, and lupus, but as a group, the disorders make up the fourth-largest cause of disability among women. It is not known what causes the body to turn on itself, but genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors are suspects.

Since autoimmune diseases are not very well understood, pinpointing specific risk factors is difficult. Symptoms can also be non-specific, hampering proper diagnosis. However, if you know something is wrong with you or a loved one, it is important to become an active health advocate. It is very common for women to make multiple visits to multiple doctors to finally get a diagnosis, but someone should take their symptoms seriously.

Four Kinds of Food to Kill the Cancer Cells in Human Body

Cancer is the most harmful and severe disease in the world. It seriously threatens human life. This article will tell you what food can effectively kill the cancer cells in the body, so as to make you away from cancer.

Firstly, eggplant:
More and more evidence shows that eggplant has an anti-cancer function. Researchers have extracted a non-toxic substance from eggplant, which can be used to treat stomach cancer and cervical cancer. In addition, eggplant contains many kinds of alkaloids, such as solanine, cucurbitacin, choline, and so on, in which solanine and cucurbitacin have been proved to have an anti-cancer ability. What's more, eggplant also contains a large number of nutrients. The vitamins and minerals contained in eggplant are as much as that contained in tomato, and the amount of protein and calcium is even three times higher than that of tomato.

Secondly, balsam pear:
Western medicine has proved that, the anti-cancer effect of balsam pear comes from a kind of quinine protein, which can activate the activity of immune cells, and kill the cancer cells or other abnormal cells in the body. In addition, balsam pear seeds contain a kind of protease inhibitor, which can prevent the tumor cells secreting protease, thus inhibiting the invasion and metastasis of cancer cells.

Thirdly, kelp:
Traditional Chinese medicine has pointed out that kelp can prevent breast cancer and thyroid cancer. It is well known that kelp contains a large number of iodine, which is very effective in the prevention of thyroid cancer. In fact, kelp also has many other effects. For example, it contains a large number of sodium alginate, which can combine with the carcinogenic strontium and cadmium, and expel them out of the body. Kelp can selectively kill or inhibit the bacteria which may produce carcinogens. What's more, the dietary fibers contained in kelp also can promote the discharge of bile acid and cholesterol.

Fourthly, sweet potato:
Sweet potato is considered to be a good food to eliminate diseases and prolong life, and it also plays an important role in reducing and promoting human health. In fact, sweet potato also has a powerful anti-cancer function. Recently, researchers have discovered a special chemical substance in sweet potato, which can prevent intestinal cancer and breast cancer.

What's more, other foods such as pumpkin, wheat bran and radish also have anti-cancer effect. As a result, we can eat more of these foods in daily life, so as to make ourselves away from cancer.

Charnos have declared October 20th to be National Stockings Day. Apparently some girls between the ages of 20-25 have never worn stockings - unbelievable! - which may explain why some guys have never seen the seductive sight of a stocking top. How wrong is that! Stockings were probably at their fashionable height between the thirties and the late nineteen-fifties when they were derigeur for any Hollywood actress of fashion Diva. Sadly they have fallen into the shadows of the fashion scene with the advent of the jean culture and a more casual appearance.

The fun, awareness event can both reinvigorate the hosiery industry and more importantly give support to Breast Cancer Care (BCC). The work of this charity, among others in the field, is vital for the continued development of better screening techniques and improved treatments. The inspirational event will encourage women who have never worn stockings to try this most elegant and sexy form of apparel. Why not try a suspender belt too and create the knockout effect...

Incidentally, you have to admire those gorgeous girls at the Buckinghamshire-based ad agency, Nobull communications. These plucky girls have given it their all at a celebrity photo shoot with '10 Years Younger' Nicky Hambleton Jones for client Charnos. Charnos has created pink ribbon lace top stockings and hold-ups, modelled here by Vicky, Kally, Nicki and Jo (above L-R).

The Sun newspaper has also joined the fight to protect our stockings with the 'Time to save our stockings feature, don't let the side down - show these guys what sexy really means...

The fun event has a very important message for women but will also help raise awareness among men about the prevalence and seriousness of this horrible cancer which affects many women worldwide.

Ovarian Cancer Mortality Rate

Mortality rate refers to the number of people dying due to a particular affliction. Ovarian cancer is a predominantly destructive cancer and is rarely detected in its early stages. It is the gynecological cancer with the highest mortality rate. Ovarian cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in women after lung, breast, and colorectal cancer.

Ovarian cancer is responsible for 5% of all cancer deaths among women. In the year 2004 itself there has been around 16,090 deaths of American women from ovarian cancer. In the last five-years, mortality rates decreased from 63% in 1974 to lesser than 50% currently. Mortality rates differ depending on age and the stage at which detected. Five-year mortality rates are less than10%, if the cancer is still contained within the ovary at diagnosis. If it has spread to nearby areas in the pelvis, the mortality rate rises to between 20% and 40% and if it has spread beyond that then the mortality rate is at an all time high of 70% to 90%.

In spite of the rate not having changed much since 1973, the mortality rate has decreased by about 12%. It is estimated that about 1 in 57 women in the United States die due to the malignancy. The ratio of deaths to incidence is around 58.3%.

Ovarian Cancer Mortality Rate

The mortality rate for ovarian cancer patients is not very good. This is largely due to the trouble of diagnosing. Ovarian cancer can only be diagnosed for certain, with invasive surgery. Unfortunately, most patients with ovarian cancer are not diagnosed until the disease is advanced. This involves spreading of the disease to the upper abdomen. Thus, it becomes very late to carry out operative as well as radiation treatments on the patients. If the disease is detected in the early stages, it is curable in a number of patients.
